Introduction to All Things Sav

This photo was taken pre-COVID by my sister

Hey guys! My name is Savannah, I am a Senior PR major at the University of Oklahoma with a concentration in pre-law and a minor in History! I am taking a gap year in order to prepare for law school and hopefully enroll in the fall of 2022. I don't necessarily have a dream job, but I've wanted to go into law since I was 5 years old and I saw a lawyer on a TV show, and for some reason that called me to the profession.

A weird fact about me is I've moved around a lot, I was born in Delaware, then moved to Georgia in Elementary school. In Middle School, I moved to Shanghai China and believe me growing up in a country where no one understands you is a bit frustrating, especially when middle school is already as difficult as it is. Then in High School, I moved to Kansas, and that is why I am currently at the University of Oklahoma today!

I will say I absolutely hate sad movies or dramatic movies, but for some reason, I watched the movie "Pride and Prejudice," four times over break. I've been rewatching 30 Rock, Brooklyn 99, and Parks and Recreation right now and those shows cannot get old! If anyone has any show or movie recommendations, do not hesitate to comment because I am looking to start a new obsession.

I am a really big fan of classic rock music and listen to a lot of music from the 70s. The reason being that my grandpas were a big part of my discovering music, one of my grandpas gave me a bunch of his records that I still have and listen to. My other grandpa gave me CDs he had that he didn't need anymore and so my music collection is hefty thanks to them. My all-time favorite hype song is I'm Still Standing by Elton John. I also have really gotten into listening to rock covers of popular songs on Spotify. One that has been popularized by TikTok is the Heart Of Glass cover by Miley Cyrus and if you have not heard her cover of Zombie by the Cranberries I highly suggest listening!

On-campus I am really involved with University Sing and CAC Scandals I have directed, written, and been in 6 different shows. I have been on the executive committee now for 2 events and this is my last semester getting to be a part of Scandals as a performance committee member. (Basically, I get to sing and act and dance, as well as help, acts as an executive resource which is very fun!)

As of right now, I am trying to keep myself busy by doing crafts and things like that. I just taught myself to crochet, and I am learning to make earrings (poorly), but it is giving me something to do. :) Other than that I am ready to get into the semester and start things back up again!

Thanks for reading about me hehe :)

  1. Hi Savannah! I think it is really cool that you want to be a lawyer and admire you for that! It seems like it is a tough major. I see you say you moved around a lot what was that like? I have never really traveled around a lot but really want to.
I absolutely LOVE Brooklyn 99 and watch it on repeat all the time. I do not really have a recommendation but I am binging all of Criminal Minds even though I have seen it ten million times.
I really love music from the 70s, 80s and 90s. I listen to all kind of music. If you have never heard of Joy Crookes you should look her up. She has a really beautiful voice to listen to!

I hope you have a wonderful semester!

  2. Howdy Savannah! I'll start off by saying you have great taste in TV shows. If you like B99 and Parks & Rec, I'd recommend giving The Good Place a shot. It is written and directed by the same guy as B99 and Parks & Rec, Michael Schur, and has a lot of the same kind of humor.
I can also really relate to your musical upbringing. When my dad was growing up, his dad (my grandpa) worked a side job in a record store, and he would take home any records with scratches or other minor defects and give them to my dad, a collection which he passed on to me. Because grandpa took any and every slightly broken record he could get though, my dad and I also have a ton of unconventional 70's music in our library. One of those slightly oddball artists is Brian Eno. If you haven't listened to him already, I would highly recommend some of his solo work. He was the producer for the albums of a ton of stars from that era like David Bowie, Genesis, or the Talking Heads.

  3. Hi Savannah! I love Parks and Rec so much, I used to leave it on in the background while I did homework or anything really. Sadly they took it off of Netflix. I think it is so cool that you have lived in so many places. I was literally born in Norman and I am still here. I think living in another country would be so cool but I am sure it was hard going to school where nobody understood you. Congrats on graduating soon and I wish you the best luck with law school!

  4. Hi Savannah!

It's always really cool to see what inspired people to choose their career path, especially when it is a goal they have been dedicated to since childhood! I moved a lot as a kid, but we only moved houses, staying in generally the same area in Oklahoma.
Anything sad is definitely not my go-to, and usually my last thought when considering something to watch. Recently, I have watching House M.D. in my free time, because medical mysteries can be pretty fascinating, and the sarcasm of Greg House is always entertaining.
I know a lot of people who have gotten into crocheting recently and they all say it can be a bit difficult in the beginning, but if you stick with it you'll surely become a pro!

  5. Hi Savannah!
It’s cool that you have known you wanted to be a lawyer since you were five. I changed my mind about what I wanted to be practically every week. I have also been re-watching Brooklyn 99 and Parks and Recreation. I have also been working on crafts and things. I already knew how to crochet (my grandmother taught me), but I have also bought several embroidery kits. Embroidery is surprisingly soothing, and you can do it when you are watching TV!

  6. Hi Savannah!
Is it terrible that I just now saw you were in this class after we literally talked about it in capstone? I'm so glad to hear you're applying to law school – the BEST of luck to you! Two out of my three favorite TV shows are Brooklyn 99 and Parks and Rec, with my other favorite being New Girl – honestly a must-watch if you haven't. I'm looking forward to reading your stories for the rest of the semester!

  7. Hi Savannah!
I think it is wonderful that you have known you wanted to be a lawyer from such a young age.
It's great that your grandpa's got you into classic rock. I love it as well. I also love Miley's version of Zombie! I want to get into crafts but I need to wait until I have more time. I wish you the best of luck! Your future is bright!

  8. Hi Savannah,
It is neat that you want to be a lawyer, what field of law are you looking to get into? I actually wanted to be a lawyer in middle school haha. I was really into the video game series Ace Attorney (I still am, though I haven't had the chance to play the newest games) and that made me want to be a lawyer. Of course, I lost interest when I realized that since Ace Attorney is a game series satirizing the Japanese legal system, being a lawyer in the U.S. would not be similar to it.

  9. Hello Savannah! I think its really awesome you are going to be a lawyer! I like watching lawyer shows on TV with my sisters. They always look so cool! It also really cool that you used to live in Shanghai, China. Where was your favorite place there? Do you miss it all? Your music preferences sound really cool. My dad listens to a lot of 70s and 80s rock music around me and my sisters. His favorite band is KISS, so I've gotten a liking for some of it from him. I saw where you said you are a fan of Brooklyn 99, have you ever watched the Office or Parks and Rec? I have only seen a few episodes of each and they seem to be really good! Many of my friends love them. Also, it must be so cool to be able to sing and act. I have always wished I could sing, but unfortunately, that's not a talent I posess. Haha! But between singing, acting, and being crafty you sound like a very talented individual and can't wait to see your stories this semester!

  10. Hi Savannah!
My best friend is in OU Law school, and I respect anyone so much for that! She definitely works hard but she also loves it. I wish you the best of luck! Also, I didn't perform in Scandals, but I saw how much work goes into that. If you were able to juggle school and heavy scandals engagement, I'm sure you can handle OU Law. Best of luck!!

  11. Hi Savannah!

I think it's super cool that you lived in different places, even in a country as far as China. I understand the struggle you had to go through when it comes to language barriers as I came to the US from South Korea during middle school! I have a close friend that almost was able to convince me to attend law school here with her but I ultimately decided on pre-pharmacy as I personally did not see myself in law. I respect your hustle for USing and Scandals as I was in both for my fraternity and I have to say, keeping up with practices and the dances can be a real challenge!

  12. Hello, Savannah. China to Kansas is quite the transition. Maybe moving around a lot has given you the confidence and creativity to be so involved in theater-like productions? That's pretty awesome. I always wished I would have done things like that when I was younger. I love "Pride and Prejudice." I read the book in high school and gifted it to someone who I was in love with at the time. It didn't work out (she couldn't read...). For some reason I ended up watching the movie with my dad. Two guys watching what amounts to a chick-flick. Good luck with lawyering!

  13. Savannah,

I think it's awesome that you have found something at OU that you are so passionate about and just love to do! USing and Scandals are so cool, and I love watching it each year! I'm not a dancer or singer myself, but I am always down to watch a performance. I also think it's really cool that you lived in China. I haven't been out out Texas and Oklahoma very much, so it's great that you have had other experiences.

  14. Hello Savannah!
That is great that you are following a childhood dream job, I wish the world allowed people to follow jobs they actually would like to do rather than something that just pay the bills/pays more. Mine would be running a Tuning Shop like Hennessy Performance.
That is a lot of moving around at such a young age! That is absolutely wild that you were in china when you were in middle school, I can agree with you that would have indeed been rough.

If you don't mind an animated series you should try out Futurama on Hulu. I like almost all those shows you listed, with their witty/ sometimes dark humor, so I think you would like it.

  15. Hi Savannah!
Moving around so much must be rough, but it sounds like you probably have lots of interesting stories to tell about your time around the world! It's crazy to hear you've directed and written and performed in 6 different shows. You sound like you're very talented and creative! Good luck with getting into law school, you seem like you've got quite the resume for it.

  16. Hi Savannah! Good luck with getting into law school next year! I admire the fact that you've had your career as a lawyer in mind since you were so young--I thought I knew what I wanted to do, but as I got older I changed my mind. That's awesome that you got to live in China for a while, although it sounds like a rough stage of life to be in a foreign country. After traveling so much, I'm sure you have some really interesting stories to tell!

  17. Hi Savannah, nice to meet you! I'm thinking about taking a gap year before going to grad school too. I've lived in Kansas for most of my life, so I lived there for high school too! Why didn't you decide to go to KU? I also LOVE scandals—I've directed a couple years now and it's always one of the highlights of my year. I danced growing up, so I always do choreography, but I really admire the creative people who write our shows! That's cool you do crochet too—I've wanted to learn but never find the time.

  18. Hi Savannah!

It's week 12 and I have only just now stumbled upon your bog from the randomizer! First I must say that I love your leopard print coat in your picture! Such a statement piece.

I have watched both Brooklyn 99 and Parks and Rec and those are some of my favorite sitcoms. You have great TV taste. I also share your love of 70s classic rock, cannot go wrong with Fleetwood Mac (one of my all time favorite bands). It's also really cool that you taught yourself how to crochet, I've always wanted to learn something like that but I've never been able to find the time.

  19. Hey Savannah,
I just finished reading your introduction and I am so happy that I did! I have been actively keeping up with your Project and have been eating it up, but have yet to see your introduction come across the randomizer! I fell like I have a much better idea of who Sav is now in the story! I'm excited to see what else you will be discovering this semester!

  20. Hi Savannah!
Wow, I can't imagine moving to China in middle school! It is such an awkward time of life for everyone so it had to have been pretty weird having people not understand you also. My mom lived in Thailand for a bit when she was little but it was elementary so she doesn't even really remember it. I recently finished watching Ted Lasso! It is the happiest, funniest show ever. It literally will just make you smile the whole time. Definitely a good show to cheer up or just whenever. The only unfortunate thing is it is only on Apple TV, which I had to beg my roommate to let me log in to. Good luck with law school!

  21. Hey Savannah!
It's the last week of school and you're blog is the last I will make a comment on! I think its awesome that you've lived in so many different places, especially out of the United States! I've moved around a few times and have lived outside the country as well! I actually really enjoy sad movies but I'm not sure why haha! Sorry I got to your post so late, but I hope you had a great semester and I wish you luck in the future!

Week 7 Story: My Tiny Horse

Photo:  Timur Romanov on Unsplash  Story Source: The Little Hunting Dog   There once was a boy, Ernest, who lived on a farm with his parents. He had not many friends, and he kept to himself for the most part. The farm that he lived on was very desolate, not too many people around and he had to be homeschooled. One night his parents were sitting at the dinner table talking closely when Ernest walked in nervously.  "Ernest, go to sleep sweetheart," his Maw exclaimed, "your Paw and I are just discussing adult matters, you don't need to worry about."  "Maw, I am an adult though!" Ernest looked at his parents, upset that they would keep things from him like this. "We're selling our farm, son." Paw said, unable to look his boy in the eyes.  "But Paw.... what about the animals? Where will they go?" Ernest was beginning to worry because his animals were his only company. His parents looked away from him, ashamed at the lengths they had
