Time Strategies

Photo by  Estée Janssens  on  Unsplash This is my last semester and I have a lot going on, I am going to have to challenge myself to keep organized and stay on top of everything. Originally my schedule for this class was 3 hours MTWT since I am enrolled in both Mythology and Folklore and Indian Epics. I think I need to allow myself some time on the weekends to pick up the slack that I may have left throughout the week. With the activities, I have throughout the week, other classes, and a part-time job; I have a lot of things scheduled I have to work around this semester.  I read two articles about time management and I think that those will help me to be able to manage my workload this semester with 15 hours of class and 15 hours of work a week.  The article The Important Habit of Just Starting  is extremely helpful and applicable to my work specifically because I do tend to overwhelm myself for no reason. Technology Talk

Photo by  Aidana Khabdesh  on  Unsplash I've never used blogger, but I have to say it has been very nice and easy to use and understand. I felt like building a website blog would be a bit challenging technically because I struggle with utilizing technology sometimes and have to look up how to use it. However, this site is very user friendly so I think I won't have too many issues with it throughout the semester.  Typically I will use Grammarly for writing on my safari browser, and I was not aware that there was an app on Google Chrome that checked spelling and grammar for you as well, so I will be utilizing that in chrome. I think the word count extension is something I will actually utilize in other classes, I had never used one before. Typically I would just type my assignments into word and then copying and pasting into the browser. This will be a lot easier to utilize for assignments, especially in posts that are typed directly into the websites.  I think the online envir

Class Assignments

Photo by  Sigmund  on  Unsplash   I am really excited about this class! I think that creativity is going to be refreshing for me to dive back into. I have had a lot of history classes that involve writing critically and not as much for enjoyment. I think the idea of taking inspiration from readings we do and forming it into our own creative work is a really cool concept that I wasn't expecting from this class.  I am really interested to learn more about the storybook assignment, and also a bit intimidated. It seems like a lot of creativity and I'm nervous that I will not come up with a clever idea. However, I will try my hardest to start thinking about the books I read that I enjoyed and what they had in them that I thought was smart and want to apply to my own. I am excited that the majority of the assignments in this class are reading and writing based. As a PR major, we have a lot of project-based classes and I feel like that is my strong suit. When I am in classes that fo

Growth Mindset

Picture from Growth Mindset and Feedback Cats I've never heard of the Growth Mindset idea or Carol Dweck until this class, so this was my first time hearing about it at all. I understand the idea of it but I didn't realize there was necessarily a term for the idea. I think that the idea that giving students the "not yet" phrasing, provides them with the thought process that, they need to get to that spot. The word "yet" gives a bit of hope that one day they will get there and that means they have to work toward it. I've noticed that people who are confident in their abilities especially at school, typically will achieve more and get past a hard patch. People who believe they will fail will accept the bare minimum because they cannot see themselves achieving more.  I've always had a relatively easy time in school, I was in gifted programs and aced all of my AP classes in High School. The word failure

Introduction to All Things Sav

This photo was taken pre-COVID by my sister Hey guys! My name is Savannah, I am a Senior PR major at the University of Oklahoma with a concentration in pre-law and a minor in History! I am taking a gap year in order to prepare for law school and hopefully enroll in the fall of 2022. I don't necessarily have a dream job, but I've wanted to go into law since I was 5 years old and I saw a lawyer on a TV show, and for some reason that called me to the profession.  A weird fact about me is I've moved around a lot, I was born in Delaware, then moved to Georgia in Elementary school. In Middle School, I moved to Shanghai China and believe me growing up in a country where no one understands you is a bit frustrating, especially when middle school is already as difficult as it is. Then in High School, I moved to Kansas, and that is why I am currently at the University of Oklahoma today!  I will say I absolutely hate sad movies or dramatic movies, but for some reason, I watched the

Storybook Favorites

Photo by  Carl Jorgensen  on  Unsplash Avatar Aang's Lost Tales  The title of this story book absolutely caught my eye. I recently rewatched Avatar the Last Airbender over quarantine as a sort of coping mechanism with the events of the world that are still going on, I felt as though the escapism helped me a lot. The introduction did a great job of setting the scene. Looking through this storybook I realized how incredible the stories of Aang are projected in the TV show, and now reading this author's rendition of the stories I feel as though I am transported back to the first time I had ever seen them. I enjoyed how the author was able to realize that reorienting the story into Wan She Tong's perspective was important in the piece they wrote about the library, was something imperative to the objectivity of the reader. I think it is important to note how the author gave self reflection on human nature as well. I loved the analysis of the story of Koh and the parallels to Nop

My Favorite Place: NYC

My favorite place probably for my whole life has been New York City. I grew up around the northeast and have relatives in the area which allowed for New York to be a fun day trip! I've gone quite a few times and was lucky enough to watch Wicked, Mary Poppins, and Book of Mormon on Broadway as well. Over Christmas break, while visiting my boyfriend's family (they live an hour away from the city), we decided to drive up and see what it looked like during the pandemic. We were actually able to drive directly through the city which I never thought possible. The streets were so uncharacteristically empty, but it was so cool to see! However, the hustle and bustle is part of the charm so it didn't seem as eclectic as usual. Downtown Manhattan
