The title of this story book absolutely caught my eye. I recently rewatched Avatar the Last Airbender over quarantine as a sort of coping mechanism with the events of the world that are still going on, I felt as though the escapism helped me a lot. The introduction did a great job of setting the scene. Looking through this storybook I realized how incredible the stories of Aang are projected in the TV show, and now reading this author's rendition of the stories I feel as though I am transported back to the first time I had ever seen them. I enjoyed how the author was able to realize that reorienting the story into Wan She Tong's perspective was important in the piece they wrote about the library, was something imperative to the objectivity of the reader. I think it is important to note how the author gave self reflection on human nature as well. I loved the analysis of the story of Koh and the parallels to Noppera-bō in Japanese folklore.
This peaked my interest at first because the title made me chuckle. Then I browsed the setup of the page, and it was very easy to navigate. I really enjoyed the different pages that cautioned the reader and helped guide them along the path. The different links made me feel like I was on a choose your own adventure allowing for me to find entertainment in the different paragraphs written by the author. With the Ariadne and Dionysis page there is more of a "pick and choose" element allowing for the reader to assist the characters, change their perspectives, help them or fight. I thought the choosing options tactic was so clever and interesting. It made the story seem more involved and intriguing, I was paying very close attention to the path of the story because I was the one choosing it in some sense. It was very clever.
Immediately, the idea of a story from the dog's perspective made me want to read more. The idea made me chuckle. I enjoyed how the introduction let the reader know that a dog would be telling the story in a cute and endearing way. The story had an obvious path as the author put easily accessible links in order to guide the audience. I really enjoyed the graphic aspect of the story. The other story books I read did not have as much imagery it looked like original story book images. I also enjoyed the perspective of Toto due to his confusion, being a dog, it made the story so much different coming from the side character as well.
