Topic Research:Cryptids

The topic I ended up wanting to focus on are Cryptids. I just find them absolutely fascinating and always have even as a kid. Going more in depth on this I will focus on three different Cryptids. Focusing in on specific stories that I enjoy will be difficult, but I figure you gotta start somewhere.

I could go three different routes with this specific topic. I could either pick one cryptic and find three different variations of the creature: for example, I could pick a lake monster specifically and focus on different tellings of that one cryptid.

Two: I could pick a specific region of the world or country to focus on. For example: The west is very popular for cryptids including Bigfoot, Tahoe Tessie and Trinity Alps giant Salamander. Or the United State's cryptids specifically which there are many of. Websource for Lake monsters.

Three: I could go on a sort of "cryptid tour" or expedition where I guide the reader on a map across the world to search for different cryptids which is more where I'm leaning right now. With this category I am able to explore very different origin stories from different cultures rather than focusing on one culture's cryptid.

I think I want to learn more about the Loch Ness monster, which is a classic of course. Either Bigfoot or a Yeti because I think they have very similar lore behind them, but I am more compelled to follow the Yeti story. Then as a third I am stuck now between the Chupacabra and the Jersey Devil which are not very similar but they are in the same part of the world and I want to try and spread them out a bit more.

I like the idea of doing widely known cryptids just because I feel like more people have searched for them and there are more "sightings" and information about them specifically. I like the idea of tracing back the lore years in the past to see where the ideas came about.

I've attached some links to the history and stories/ sightings of the creatures I'm interested in, but I am not exactly sure what else to look up in order to learn more!

Week 13 Reading Notes B: King Arthur

Photo by  Omar Prestwich  on  Unsplash This story is part of the King Arthur unit . Story source: King Arthur: Tales of the Round Table by Andrew Lang and illustrated by H. J. Ford (1902). Sir Lancelot tied his horse to a tree and stopped for a bit. He dreamed of knights and woke up and his horse was gone so he left by foot.  Sir Bors was told by the hermit that he must wear this garment instead of a shirt on his quest for the grail. He took off his clothes and put on a scarlet coat. On shore he found a vessel and as soon he stepped foot onto the boat it took off as if he had been flying.  The king fell ill, and soon he may die. The three knights gave their forgiveness while he was on his death bed. Galahad was proclaimed king, Galahad's soul left his body and was carried by angels up to heaven. Since then no man dared to say they had seen the holy grail. When a year and two months passed Sir Percivale died as well and was buried by his side.

Week 14 Story: Italian Micro-fiction

They all asked him for something from town when he left. Rosina asked for a dress, Marietta wanted a shawl and Zelinda wanted just a rose. Their father was headed back when he realized he had no rose, he went into the field and found one to pick. Once he picked the rose, a monster appeared and began to threaten him. This monster threatened the man's life. The father begged and begged, he had three daughters at home alone he needed to care for. The monster let him go, but required a life. Zelinda in the Castle: Zelinda heard her father's story and knew it was all her fault, she volunteered to be given to the monster. When they got there, the beast was satisfied with his sacrifice and sent the father out. He kept the girl there and fell in love with her. Zelinda was indifferent, she could not love such a hideo...
